About The Event

Your nervous system can be anywhere along the spectrum of fear to safety.  This spectrum of autonomic states shows up as different physiologies from cardiovascular, digestion, mood, urogenital and reproductive systems to immunology.  Staying in a chronic state of fear leads to disease. The bombardment of news of conflict in politics, race, religions, and living in a post-Covid pandemic places our nervous system at risk to constantly run on fear.

Finding balance in our nervous system can be a challenge. What does yoga have to offer to our nervous system? Yoga brings flexibility and thus resilience to our nervous system. Through the practice of yoga including use of breath, movement, sound, and meditation, we learn to regulate the stressors in our lives and calm the nervous system when we are over-activated, and activate it when we feel shutdown.

This workshop is for all levels of yoga practitioners (including beginners) curious in exploring the nervous system with mind-body interface. You will learn some basic neurophysiology of the autonomic nervous system. At this event you will learn about the Polyvagal Theory of three states of the autonomic nervous system - safety, mobilization, and shut down. The neuroscience will be integrated with yogic principles and interspersed with yoga practices.
