About The Event

Triad Abolition Project is very excited about being able to come together as a community and learn more about healing justice, transformative justice, and the practice of abolition socially and somatically!  Our goal is to contribute to the community-building needed to support new methods of accountability that move away from carceral systems of punishment and expand communities of care. Throughout the workshop, we will engage with readings, art, movement, and reflective journal prompts that will help build our collective and individual capacities in the practice of collective care and abolition.

The workshop will meet four times in total, June 10th, June 17th, July 1st, and July 15th  from 11am-3pm at 18 Springs Community Healing Center in Winston Salem, NC. Masks will be required and provided for all in person sessions. All applicants are required to be able to attend at least three of the sessions. Participants may engage by joining us in-person or virtually via Zoom. We'll provide all books and materials, lunch, and childcare at no cost to you! If you're out of state, we will ship the supplies to you.

If you aren't able to commit to in-person or virtual participation, consider signing up to be a remote follower. Remote followers can expect to receive email updates throughout the workshop series with access to our discussion questions, transformative justice writing and arts prompts, and our curriculum (books are not provided to remote followers). If we get enough remote follower interest, we can think up new ways of building community with one another virtually if desired! During each session, we will discuss the assigned readings (chapters/parts of chapters from the set of books), the reflective journal prompts, and practice transformative justice exercises, and learn tools for healing. We will also engage in movement practices such as yoga. The power of the workshops lies in the active engagement of all participants, so it is important that everyone do their best to keep up with the materials and activities.

We cannot include an unlimited number of participants. Please complete this application by Sunday, May 7th to help us gauge our potential expenses and we will get back to you by Tuesday, May 9th regarding whether you will be able to join the workshop!
